Let the little children come to me

Baptism is the sacrament that Jesus gives us to show His love. It shows God's belief in us. Our child is also God's child. God's smile comes in Baptism, it is a sign that every sin is forgiven, and that we are precious and valued. We are all children of God.

Baptism is the sign by which we are loved and "recreated" in God's own image. In Baptism parents and godparents trace the sign of the cross on their child's forehead to show that their child now belongs to Christ, who now offers his help and grace.

Water is used to cleanse children of original sin. Water is necessary for life and so is a sign, too, that the life of the risen Christ is ours. Children are sealed with oil of chrism as a gift of the Holy Spirit, and clothed with a white garment as a sign of innocence and new life. Parents are given a lighted candle symbolizing the flame of faith that is now alive in the heart of their child. Your child's Baptism will be recorded in the parish Baptismal Register.

Baptisms are scheduled for the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Baptismal preparation classes take place on the first Tuesday of each month. All Baptisms and classes must be arranged by calling the rectory at (708) 425-2850, between 8:30AM and 4:00PM, Monday through Friday.

Baptism Remembrance:

Today I Was Baptized Today I Was Baptized tells a heartwarming story of an infant baptism that includes short essays about the sacrament of baptism, its origin and traditions. There is also room for you to record the story of your baby's baptism. The book is beautifully illustrated and one that you are sure to want as a keepsake of this special day.
