The Rite of Christian Initiation For Adults 
aka R.C.I.A. 

is a process of spiritual formation and information for the person who is interested in becoming a Fully Initiated Catholic. Full Initiation consists of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and reception of the Eucharist for the first time. 

• Some people are baptized into the Roman Catholic Church but are not catechized in the faith and are looking to complete the Sacraments of Initiation. 

• Others come to the RCIA process having never been baptized according to the Trinitarian Rite recognized by the Roman Catholic Church. 

• Still others come who have been baptized into a Protestant Christian tradition and seek to enter into Full Communion with the Roman Catholic Church. 

The Process consists of weekly sessions offered to the Candidates and their Sponsors. Each session consists of a topic regarding Church Teachings and Traditions. The Candidate enters into a personal discernment process in conjunction with the Coordinator of the RCIA Program in the parish. 

The process continues for an extended period of time. Personal readiness is the first priority determining the date of one’s reception into the Church through reception of the Sacraments of Initiation. The time is usually 9 months but can continue up to three years.
